Techniek achter Selectieve Laser Sintering
Bij de printtechniek Selectieve Laser Sintering hoeft geen ondersteunende structuur te worden gebruikt. Iets wat vaak wel het geval is bij andere 3D printtechnieken. Een laser zorgt voor het sinteren van een gepoederd materiaal. Voorbeelden van materialen die gebruikt worden bij deze printtechniek zijn thermische thermoplasten en bijvoorbeeld nylon. Het sinteren van materialen betekent dat dit zodanig verhit wordt, dat het net niet smelt. Het verhitten van materialen leidt ertoe dat de verschillende lagen die bij 3D printen gebruikt worden zich goed aan elkaar hechten. Na het sinteren van het gepoederd materiaal, zorgt een roller voor een gladde, nieuwe laag poeder over het object. Deze stappen worden herhaald tot het product de gewenste vorm heeft.
Voordelen van de printtechniek SLS
Selectieve Laser Sintering biedt verschillende voordelen. Zo levert het een bijzonder sterk en nauwkeurig geproduceerd eindproduct op. Daarbij is het eindproduct ten opzichte van andere printtechnieken zeer licht van gewicht. Nadeel kan zijn dat het koelen van het materiaal enige tijd duurt. Ook de oppervlakteafwerking van producten geprint met SLS is minder goed, dan bij andere printtechnieken. Het is mogelijk om een geprint product vervolgens van een verflaag te voorzien, om deze een gewenste kleur te geven.
